Series one

The first section of the book is a series of black and white photographs of the bronze detecting finds before their transformation. Verdi chose to photograph them on the gnarled floorboards of Romilly’s house, suggesting fictional landscapes. Her particular eye has animated these chance survivals.

Each image was given a title which was then translated by anagram, forming an imaginary place name, thus constructing an illusory map.
